EA has announced that it was raising prices in the region due to lower Origin India prices compared to the rest of the world, angering customers in that region in the process. Most say that if the increase in price was gradual, then the rising price may have been accepted with ease, however an increase of more than double is hard to swallow. Using the #EAPCIndia hashtag, Indian PC gamers have started to voice their outrage to EA on Twitter.
As a comparison, Battlefield 3 retailed at 1,499INR ($24.86) and as a result of the recent announcement, Battlefield 4 will be sold for 3,499INR ($58.03) — an increase of 133%. It’s unclear if these prices will be restricted to Origin or will also apply to boxed releases in India.
Chris Gatherer, EA’s regional director for EMEA markets, who confirmed, “We will be launching our pre-orders on Origin soon and I can confirm the pricing will be comparative to global market pricing.”. Global market pricing is $59.99 for EA’s big-ticket releases like Battlefield.
