More Battlefield 4 content to come – 6th DLC?

rsz_bf4-road-ahead-1Battlefield hyped up a super special announcement for earlier today. It has finally been revealed, and the announcement is…they will announce something later! That’s right, they made an announcement that they will make an announcement.

All joking aside, what was actually announced is that there will be more Battlefield 4 content, specifically noting in the blog post that, “Final Stand is not the end.” Now, this leaves a lot of room for speculation, as “more content” could technically mean more double-XP weekends and free battlepacks. However, the reference to Final Stand, a survey about what classic Battlefield maps the player base enjoys (by the way, go vote), and hints from certain developers (namely, David Sirland, or @Tiggr_), this is intended to be a big thing meant to really please t...

Battlefield 4 CTE vs. Battlefield: Hardline

More than likely, most readers here have already heard the rumors (it really was the worst kept secret) and seen the leaked videos of the upcoming title, Battlefield: Hardline. Because of the leak last week, EA and Visceral were forced to confirm the new Battlefield IP. More is to be revealed at E3 next week, and prominent YouTube personalities have been flown to Visceral studios and allowed to record gameplay. Uploads of this gameplay are allowed to begin June 9.

So, what is Battlefield: Hardline? Put basically, it is a game about cops and robbers. It is not entirely clear how it fits in the Battlefield franchise, but one can assume it is going to have the same core gameplay mechanics, destruction, Levolution, and combination of vehicle and infantry combat found in other BF titles...

EA/YouTube Battlefield 4 Launch Controversy

If you are a fan of the Battlefield series (and you likely are if you are reading this blog), you are probably aware that Battlefield 4 is thoroughly embroiled in some controversy right now.

The controversies have arisen for a number of reasons, all of which seem to be compounding upon one another. I am going to do my best to share my perspective on it all.

First, there is the launch debacle. I wrote some time ago about BF4 having a rocky launch. In retrospect, that was a bit of an understatement, as the impact of the launch difficulties was deeper and their persistence longer than I initially realized...

A Rocky Battlefield 4 Launch

By now, anyone playing or even loosely following Battlefield 4 knows that its launch has been anything short of smooth.  A broad spectrum of issues have plagued those who have tried playing the past week and a half.  Servers have been crashing, causing points, ranks, ribbons, and other progress to be lost. The Lancang Dam map has an issue where sound completely cuts out for some players. Using a suppressed QBU88 cuts out game sounds for the entire server.  Some of us are even so lucky as to experience an issue where the game freezes while and endless loop of the last game sound plays. Over at Battlefield On My Mind, I discuss the steps I have taken to mitigate this issue (tl;dr: changing to borderless rather than fullscreen video mode seems to have helped the most)...

Analysis of additional Battlefield 4 gameplay videos and screenshots

So, it seems that EA/DICE continue to hand out short gameplay videos to the Battlefield YouTube community to hold our interest and feed our speculation as Gamescom 2013 approaches.  I, for one, am happily going full-tilt on this hype machine.  Check out this video of an attack boat battle posted by Luetin09, and hit the jump for more screens and discussion.

In Luetin’s video, we see see the attack boats face off.  The boat being spectated fires off its countermeasures, the effects of which look really nice.  Then, my favorite part happens: the other boat rams the first one.

What I find significant and marvelous about this is how the vehicles interact:  one boat pushes the other aside and into the water, while getting lifted off the water by...

New Battlefield 4 gameplay footage on ultra setting

Brand new gameplay videos have come to light showing Battlefield 4′s ULTRA graphics settings. EA has sent two clips to popular YouTube gamers wintergore and jackfrags. For those of you console gamers, Ultra settings are the highest graphical settings you can play the game with, and that’s what they do their video showcases with Ultra settings.

“This is a new BF4 gameplay clip that EA sent me, Captured in Spectator Mode using a disabled HUD. Recorded very recently at a play session in Los Angeles.”

The video features a QBZ-95 with a green laser sight, flash suppressor and pks 3.4x scope. Don’t be fooled people, this isn’t another Close Quarters map, in the background of the video you see a Blackhawk, or some other transport vehicle flying by...

Battlefield 4 indoor arctic map?

Sure you guys have seen the Battlelog trailer by now. The ”Next gen” is constantly talking about connectivity. Seems as though if they could find a way to connect us directly into the Matrix, they probably would.Yet it’s only now that it hints at what all this means.

The trailer shows just how connected the next installment in our favorite franchise is. With integrated smart phone and tablet support, this game is constantly surprising all of us in the best of ways.

Within the trailer they show a snippet of what this connection all looks like in play. Visible on a tablet with a map of a live game, a map appears and is covered in white snow. Also interesting to note is that this map looks like its 100% in doors.

I have made a video showing you guys what I am talking about and I also share...

No cross-gen saves for Battlefield 4 [UPDATE: DICE exploring idea]

It’s official. If you want to transfer your Battlefield 4 multiplayer progress from your current console to the next gen, you’re out of luck, DICE confirms today.

When asked by a Twitter user “What about if I play BF4 on 360 and then when the Xbox One comes does my rank stay the same?” @Battlefield replied “No. Each platform is treated like a separate career, similar to how it works in Battlefield 3″.

This, with the added knowledge that there will be no cross-gen play either, will come as a major disappointment to fans who are eagerly awaiting the title’s release date in October (US)/November(UK). This will no doubt come as something of a surprise to many players after an announcement by EA in regard to FIFA 14 that confirmed team transfers to next-gen versions.

With this said, all I can ...

Battlelog will support dual monitors and laptops in-game

You may have read earlier this week Thomas Deisinger’s article on the Battlefield 4 Battlelog Trailer.

Recently, Battlelog Producer DICE_TheBikingViking, and Battlelog Developer, DarkLord7845, answered questions on a Reddit thread clarifying some of the new features. One of the more interesting subjects discussed was in regard to the use of 2 or more monitors while playing online. They even confirmed that if your laptop is plugged into the same local network, you can use that for your minimap in the same way you can use a tablet or other hand held device.

The reddit thread can be seen below:

This will make things a lot easier for players, as anything that can access the browser-based battlelog, can be put onto the second monitor and used to change loadouts, track progress or use the batt...
